Seattle-based photographer Tanner Wendell Stewart didn’t think much when he took a picture of a six-month-old baby while volunteering in Bulgaria back in 2012, until the man carrying the child offered to sell the infant to him for $50.

Stunned by the incident, he embarked on Shoot the Skies, an Indiegogo project to raise funds for the A21 Campaign, a non-profit organization devoted to ending human trafficking.

Stewart traveled to 20 national parks in five different countries, taking a photograph of radiant starry skies everyday for 365 days in 2013. The project has since raised nearly US$97,000, far exceeding its goal of US$45,000, and has been turned into a book.

He hopes the project will shine a light on the injustices of human trafficking—it is estimated an all-time-high of 27 million people worldwide are being sold into enslaved labor and sex work today.

Find out more about the book and purchase it here, and head over to the A21 Campaign website to find out how you can help.
