This Awesome Family Portrait Features A Lightning Strike In The Background

Dallas-based weather photographer Kelly DeLay recently took an unusual family portrait while chasing a storm in Guymon, Oklahoma.

In an interview with BuzzFeed UK, DeLay said it had been months in the making, and that he had always wanted to take a family photo with a storm in the background.

Describing the thrill of the shoot, he said it took him and his family eight hours to chase the storm down. “We had about 10 minutes to get in, take the shot, and get out before the lightning, wind, and hail reached us.”

The picture was the culmination of a five-year endeavor titled the ‘Clouds 365 Project’ in which he took a photograph of a cloud everyday.

Started as a personal challenge “to do something creative everyday”, DeLay credits the project with opening his eyes to the beauty and splendor of nature.
