Bangkok-based artist Kamolpan Chotvichai has created a series of artwork through the use of simple tools.
She explores the teaching of Buddha on anatta—which means “not-self” or “illusion of self”—by applying cutting and slitting techniques on portraits of herself, that gives illusion of disintegration and melting away from her human form.
She hopes to create emptiness that will lead her to the stage of nothing, as “the idea of this self-existing is actually self-formed and leads to variety of emotions”, which can cause great misery in life, explain Chotvichai in her artist statement.
