Innovative ‘Cycling Desks’ Make You Pedal For Power To Charge Your Phone

In the future, if the makers of WeBikes get their way, you may have to exercise in order to get power to charge your phone.

First conceived by Flemish minister Patricia Ceysens, who wanted to be able to work out at her desk, the WeBikes are stationary bicycles that power gadgets and a Wi-Fi connection as their users pedal.

It takes 30 minutes of easy pedaling to generate enough power to fully charge an iPhone, the same amount of time it would take if one simply plug it into a power outlet—only with the WeBikes, you would get to stay healthy in addition to fueling up your devices.

While it may seem distracting to try to work and exercise at the same time, the engineer of the WeBikes states that “gentle exercise” while doing work on the computer can bring about more focus and creativity, thus improving the quality of the work.

Currently, the WeBikes are mostly being used in public places such as companies and hotels, but may soon be found in offices as well.

Would you like to work at a “cycling desk” such as these?
