Mirror Reveals Intimate Message Written By A Soldier To His Wife In World War I

British artist Richard Wentworth has created a poster for Art On The Underground, Centenary commemorations of the First World War.

His project titled “Look You May Not See”, reversed the text of a postcard written by soldier Herbert Ernest Wilson to his wife Martha Emily Watson on 4 September 1918, taken from the University of Oxford Poetry Archive.

Viewers will have to use a mirror to reveal the intimate message that was exchanged—it serves as an emphasis of the historical distance between the contemporary mass audience and the original individual.

Find out more about the project here.
