Stunning Paintings Of Dragons Made With Almost A Single Stroke

The Japanese studio Kousyuuya has produced four generations of painters who excel at drawing dragons with almost a single stroke, which is also known as “Hitofude Ryuu” in Japanese.

These artists paint the head of a dragon before using a large sumi brush to carefully flesh out the dragon’s body. The artist has to deliberately pause and even turn the paper to create the sinuous curves and scales to make them look more realistic.

This technique has similarities to ink wash painting and calligraphy, and certain styles are repeated, albeit with variations in color and detail. This art takes a long time to perfect, but the results certainly are worth it.
