A Chair Inspired By Sharp Spikes

Swedish designer Alexander Lervik—who previously created a chocolate lamp—may have possibly designed the ‘world’s most uncomfortable chair’.

Called the ‘Spike Chair’, it looks like a torture device with wooden rods protruding out like a bed of nails.

The weight of the sitter will be spread over 60 rods, while another 30 different length rods will accommodate the curve of the human body.

According to Lervik, he said that the Spike Chair was inspired by “shafts of heavy rain in the Phillipines”.

“One day it poured with rain. Raining stair rods, as they say, and that’s exactly how it was,” he explained. “The shafts of rain resembled slanted lines and in the rain I suddenly saw the outlines of Spike in front of me.”
