Pixar Artist Designs New Emoticons For Facebook

With Facebook aiming to roll out emoticons in status updates, they have hired Pixar story artist Matt Jones to redesign the traditional smiley face.

According to Buzzfeed, Jones will be designing a set of more subtle and complex emotions for the social media giant.

These redesigned emoticons will be able to convey more complex emotions such as contemplation, admiration, affirmation, weakness and gratitude—to name a few.

“Facebook was canny enough to realize that traditional emoticons are quite bland,” said Jones. “At Pixar we consider emotional states every day with every drawing we make. Our work is informed by the years of study we do, constantly studying people’s gestures and expressions in real life.”

What do you think? Do we need new smiley faces?
