Inspired by a quote from Nietzsche, the creatives from Duffy London have come up with a lovely table that contains a 3D map of an ocean floor.
Made out of wood and glass layers, the “Abyss Table” uses contour lines in topographical maps to create this 3D model. When viewed from above, we can see some islands and the abyss of an ocean within.
“I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers—the same way the sea does as it deepens. I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the Earth’s sea bed,” said Christopher Duffy, the head of the firm.
The table costs UK£5,800 and is available for purchase on their website. Although it is expensive, it will add beauty to any home.
