Paris-based photographer Marie Hamel has come up with these poignant nighttime portraits of grocery stores in Paris.
Hamel has been photographing them since 2010, showing how they light up the otherwise quiet streets of the city. However, many of these stores are vanishing, making way for gigantic supermarket chains.
The photographer believes that these grocery stores have played a large part in her country’s history, and would like to capture as many of them before they are gone. Indeed, there is nothing quite like buying groceries in the middle of the night when hunger pangs strike.
