Architect Firm Converts An Old Railway Building Into Stylish ‘Bike Hotel’

In the town of Drammer, Norway, there was a shortage of bike racks as cycling is the common form of transportation among its citizens. Hence, architect firm MMW Architects was tasked to turn an old railway building into a ‘Bike Hotel’.

The ‘Bike Hotel’ can house a total of 134 bicycles, two of which can be used by cargo bikes. It also has four charging points for electric bicycles and an air pump.

According to MMW Architects, they were careful to preserve the original architecture of the building that reflects Norwegian’s traditions. They even used “old tar-smelling oil products” to ensure the building smelled like the olden days.

Cyclists can use the bike racks in the building when they download a mobile app that allows them to unlock the ‘hotel’ when they need to.
