South Korean photographer JeongMee Yoon began “The Pink and Blue Project” when her then 5-year-old daughter only wanted pink toys and clothing.
This made her realize that her daughter had been convinced by gender-specific marketing that pink was for girls and blue was for boys.
Yoon then began photographing both American and South Korean children in their bedroom, each posing with all their pink or blue possessions.
Through this project, Yoon highlights how gender-specific marketing can have such a deep effect on a child’s life.
This project, created in 2007, has the same profound effect on its audience today as it did seven years ago.
