In South Korea, fans of baseball team Hanwha Eagles need not worry if they cannot physically turn up at the stadium to support their team.

They can send their cheers for the team through web or mobile. The wishes would then be picked up by a live streaming system, which would forward the message to a ‘fanbot’, a combination of the words ‘fan’ and ‘robot’.

Fans are required to send a photo of themselves to the system, along with their messages, in order for the ‘fanbot’ at the stadium to serve as a “double” for them.

Dubbed the first of such invention in the world, the ‘fanbot’ would then use the individual’s photo as its display while it carries out its cheering.

Is this the future of spectating?
