Striking Propaganda Posters That Warn Against Venereal Diseases In Word War II

During World War II, there was a strong propaganda campaign that used graphic posters to educate and warn American soldiers about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and how to prevent it.

Los Angeles-based book publisher Boyo Press has gathered these posters and compiled it into an interesting book that gives us an insight into the type of health education in the past.

The posters are usually straight-forward and contain illustrations aimed to scare the soldiers into practicing safe sex. For example, one poster showed a soldier being tied down by VD, and could not go home with his comrades.

Although the posters may seem exaggerated, they proved to be rather effective as the number of infected soldiers decreased to 600 per day from 18,000.
