Hilarious Captions Add A Satirical Twist To Classical Paintings

“What? Yes, I’m still listening. You were talking about that... I’m just resting my eyes”

Mallory Ortberg, a writer and editor at The Toast, has given a satirical twist to classical paintings with hilarious captions.

Her series ‘Women Listening To Men’ portrays the women in the paintings as bored and exasperated with their male companions.

Ortberg channels their frustration by wittily imagining their inner thoughts, coming up with choice gems like “I keep drinking, but it’s not making him more interesting” and “What? Yes, I’m still listening. You were talking about that... I’m just resting my eyes.”

Funny and wry, any long-suffering wife or girlfriend who has ever had to put up with a husband or boyfriend’s antics can relate to them.

Check out more humorous captions below and view the rest of the series here.

“How can you say that, how can you say I’m not paying attention? I just took off all my clothes and threw the fruit basket to help me focus”

“Ahhhahahhaha that is so good, that is so funny, that is so funny and good, no I’ve never heard that before from you”

“I keep drinking, but it’s not making him more interesting”

“Oh no I wasn’t doing anything, I’m not busy. Just talking to all of my friends, but I’m so glad we’re doing this now instead”

“Hooray, we’re kissing now, that’s the thing that is happening now”

“Yeah that’s terrible, I can’t believe he said that. Wow and after you basically saved the presentation too. Hang on I just gotta rest my neck for a minute”

“Ahh sorry I just, I really need to look at this matchbook right now. Sorrryyy”
