Photographer Andi Schreiber’s on-going series ‘Pretty, Please’ is a raw examination of her life as an aging suburban mother in a culture obsessed with youth.
The term “middle age” isn't the most flattering description, conjuring up images of frumpy clothes, wrinkles and blemished skin.
However as the years passed, Schreiber found that she still felt young and desirable, though societal norms dictate otherwise.
“When I was in my thirties I heard the expression “Invisible Forties.” I couldn’t imagine how sexually inconsequential I’d feel throughout this decade,” she states in her project description.
Honest and raw, her photographs of her wrinkled, saggy skin can never compete with the suppleness of a young, nubile body, but there is a courageous beauty in baring it for all to see.
“You get into your 40s and things are very different, your perspective changes, and the way the world looks at you changes as well.”
