Photographer Gohar Dashti draws from her experience during the eight-year-long Iran-Iraq war for her photo series, “Today’s Life and War”.
In her photo series, a couple is pictured going through normal, daily tasks like having a meal together, hanging the laundry out to dry, and taking a walk—all amidst staged props of barbed wires, armed soldiers and army tanks.
What makes the photographs striking are the unfazed looks on the couple’s faces as they carry out their chores despite the danger that looms around them.
Dashti wrote on her website, “In a fictionalized battlefield, I show a couple in a series of everyday activities… Though they do not visibly express emotion, the man and woman embody the power of perseverance, determination, and survival.”
