India Has A Clever Adaptation To The ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’

India has come up with a clever adaptation of the viral ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’—its very own ‘Rice Bucket Challenge’.

The brainchild of Manju Latha Kalanidhi, a journalist in Hyderabad, the project got “5,000 ‘Likes’ on Day 2”.

Described as a “Desi challenge for Desi needs”, as India is home to a quarter of the world’s starving population, participants are required to cook or purchase a bucket of rice or biryani and feed the needy. After completing the challenge, they are to upload a photo onto Facebook with the hashtag #RiceBucketChallenge. Friends who are tagged in the photo are to follow suit.

Individuals have also sent in financial aid to the movement.
