‘Zag’ App Turns Photos Into Conversations, Makes Chatting More Fun

There are apps that let you create your own emojis and send GIFs to your friends, but the ‘Zag’ app is going back to basics by letting you communicate through photographs.

The app lets you edit and share pictures, turning them into conversations in pictorial form.

In an interview with Fast Company, co-founders Caroline Klatt and Cory Moelis said the app started as a private joke among their friends, who often sent each other funny edited pictures to keep in touch.

Realizing there had to be a better way to edit images without using multiple tools, the pair took their idea to a design firm who proposed a prototype, and launched the app in April this year.

Liven up your pictures with the app’s built-in suite of tools like stickers, meme text, captions, and filters. You can also selectively blur images, stitch them together or reply to a thread with a new photo.

“The truly unique piece here is the ability to collaborate with friends. In ‘Zag’, a picture isn’t just a way to promote yourself. It’s a conversation, a connector, a dialogue,” said Klatt.
