75-year-old British illustrator Brian Sanders has lent his talents to create the poster for the new season of Mad Men.
In the Season 6 poster of the TV show that AMC unveiled, Don Draper is drawn to look like he’s from an old copy of Readers Digest—and he’s featured ‘seeing double’, as he is a man with two identities.
According to The New York Times, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner was inspired “by a childhood memory of lush painterly illustrations on T.W.A. flight menus” and decided to turn back the promotional clock.
“He pored over commercial illustration books from the 1960s and ‘70s and sent images to the show’s marketing team, which couldn’t quite recreate the look he was after,” The New York Times writes.
Finally, they just looked up the person who had done all these drawings that Weiner loved—and his name is Brian Sanders.
Sanders has previously created many editorial and advertising illustrations in British publications in the 1960s.
