With the US$4.05 billion he received from selling Lucasfilm to Disney, most people would expect George Lucas to sit back and enjoy his retirement.
However, the ‘Star Wars’ creator has other plans—he wants to open an art museum in San Francisco.
In an interview with CBS This Morning, Lucas told a reporter on how he intends to open an art museum as the next major project in his life.
The museum will not focus much on ‘Star Wars’, but instead feature Lucas’ private collection of artworks and paintings—which he has been collecting since film school.
Having learnt a lot about storytelling through art, he hopes the new museum will inspire young people the same way art inspired him.
“There is a world of young people who need to be inspired,” Lucas said, “[It’s] the idea of being able to paint your fantasies which is what Star Wars was.”
“Star Wars was there to inspired young people to imagine things, to imagine going anywhere in the universe and doing anything you want to do and using your imagination to entertain yourself.”
