Heat Sensitive Cup Will Stop You From Scalding Your Mouth

Designers Yang Dongyun, Wu Yichen, Sang Xinxin, Gu Zhiyu and Lin Xia have designed a heat sensitive cup that will stop you from scalding your mouth.

Called the ‘Nothot Cup’, it features a heat sensitive lid that expands when the drink inside the cup is too hot.

If someone tries to drink from the cup when the lid is expanded, the user’s nose will touch the lid—serving as a warning that the drink is too hot and should not be drunk.

The lid will only become flat when the temperate of the drink drops to 30°C—indicating that liquid inside is safe to drink.

The Nothot Cup won the red dot award in 2012.
