Stacks Of Vintage Books Carved To Look Like Miniature Rows Of Houses

Dutch artist Frank Halmans has transformed piles of vintage books into charming sculptures that look like rows of miniature houses for his series “Built of Books”.

Binding a few unexceptional old books together at one time, he would then proceed to carve doors, windows and other architectural elements into them.

Considering that many people will be against the idea of destroying books—even if it is for the sake of art—, Halmans takes care to select only books whose alternative fate lies in idle storage in forgotten corners.

Making eye-catching ornaments when perched on a shelf or desk-top, these unusual sculptures is a great way to up-cycle books that would otherwise just be gathering dust.
