‘The Great Gatsby’ Recreated As An 8-Bit Game

To help curb your anxious anticipation for Baz Luhrmann’s version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel ‘The Great Gatsby’, why not try a game based on the story?

Created by developer Charlie Hoey of San Francisco-based creative agency The Barbarian Group a couple of years ago, ‘The Great Gatsby – For NES’ is a stylized Flash game made to look like an old-school 8-bit NES game, from the pixels right down to the music.

You play as Nick Carraway, the novel’s narrator, and you fight off enemies—such as flappers and butlers—by flinging your hat; and complete missions, such as finding Gatsby at his party, and defeat the laser-shooting eyes of Dr Eckleberg.

The Gatsby-themed game contains four levels and includes various places, several characters, and lines and scenes from the book.

Bookworms, what do you think of games about classic novels?
