Artist Creates A Portrait Of What The Entire Internet Looks Like

London-based artist Benjamin Redford has drawn a portrait of what the entire internet looks like.

Calling it ‘Internetopia’, the portrait was a crowdsourced drawing experiment that Redford started in 2013. He encouraged internet users to submit content ideas for a dollar on Kickstarter and he would draw their request on a cube.

The 2m x 1.5m canvas was divided into 3,012 cubes and made up of requested content such as “a dragon curled up and sleeping on top of a water tower” to “a cocoa tree” and “Simpsons style nuclear power plant”.

Redford explained that he came up with the concept because “(the idea of cyberspace) is mostly portrayed as infinite, clean, grid systems”. He liked the idea of making a more ‘human’ version of it, made up by people all around the world.
