Incredible Scenes Of Post-War Japan Recreated In Miniature With Old Towel Fibers

Japanese artist Takahiro Iwasaki, previously featured for his intricate thread sculptures and topographical maps, has expended his “Out of Disorder” series with a new project.

Exhibited at the Kawasaki City Museum early this year, the artist has painstakingly recreated parts of the “old industrial Kawasaki”.

Crafted from old towels, he meticulously erects the “post-war” buildings—“recreating old oil refineries, natural gas generators and gentry cranes”, with the help of images taken from Google Earth.

The towels were soaked in ink, turning them into rags with loose fabric fibers. This allows the artist to tweak and pull the threads, transforming an ordinary towel into a work of art.
