LEGO To Release A Toy Set That Pays Tribute To Female Scientists

Toy brick company LEGO is launching a new series of minifigs that pays tribute to female scientists.

Designed by Ellen Kooijman, the collection is named ‘Research Institute’, and it beat six other ideas and emerged top in the ‘Winter 2014 LEGO Review’.

The geochemist in Stockholm wrote in a blog post on how her inspiration came about: “As a female scientist I had noticed two things about the available LEGO sets: a skewed male/female minifigure ratio and a rather stereotypical representation of the available female figures. It seemed logical that I would suggest a small set of female minifigures in interesting professions to make our LEGO city communities more diverse”.

In her proposal, Kooijman conceptualized 12 designs complete with accompanying accessories. LEGO will decide on the final minifigs to hit stores in August 2014.

Till then, check out Kooijman’s submission for more pictures and details.
