No Pedaling Required: A Bicycle That You Move By Walking On It

Japanese company Walking Bicycle Club has created a special kind of bicycle that is “more convenient and faster than walking, but easier than riding a typical bicycle”—instead of pedaling, users would simply have to walk on it to make it move.

Working like an elliptical bike, the Walking Bicycle is a response to concerns that people are becoming too reliant on technology and neglecting their natural ability to walk and move around on their own.

The electric motor in the bicycle would only assist the rider and not do all the work for him or her, which means that users would be able to keep fit by opting to use it as their mode of transport—a ride on the Walking Bicycle would work all the core muscles in the body.

Hand-made in Okayama Prefecture in Japan, this unusual bicycle is priced rather highly as it is a “top notch quality ‘Made In Japan’ product” and involved the “incredible talents of Japanese designers”.

The Walking Bicycle is being prepared to be launched for retail in October 2014—while it would only be sold in Japan for now, its creators plan to expand overseas as soon as possible.
