Frightening Installations Show Gigantic Ants Invading Cities In Swarms

Colombian artist Rafael Gómezbarros has been bringing his army of giant ants sculptures around cities since 2007.

The installation titled “Casa Tomada” or “Seized House” showcases larger-than-life ants crawling in swarms on buildings and other urban structures—their legs are crafted out of tree branches, while their skulls and torsos are made of fiberglass resin and fabric.

These artworks aims to make a statement about the lives of migrant workers in Latin America, who are constantly looked upon as vermin, and peasants who were displaced by war and strife in Colombia.
