‘Territorio de Zaguates’ is an organization that dedicates itself to the rescue of abandoned dogs. They shelter, neuter, and find loving homes for them.
However, due to a whopping 94% of the dogs in the shelter being mixed breeds, adoption rates hit a low—people generally preferred adopting pure-breed dogs.
In a bid to erase the stigma that mixed-breed dogs are less valuable, the shelter invited canine experts to find out the breeds of these dogs.
Considering their breed mix and other unique aspects of the dogs, they conceived new names for them like “Chubby-tailed German Dobernauzer” and “Bunny-tailed Scottish Shepterrier”.
“They only exist in our country; these are some wonderful specimens”, said an authority on pets and breeds, who appeared on a popular Costa-Rican television show to talk about these beautiful canines.
Soon after, the show’s Facebook page was bombarded with comments by people who were interested in these one-of-a-kind dogs.
People all over the country fell in love with these unique breeds, news about the dogs spread like wildfire over various social media platforms, and adoption rates increased.
