The ‘Ark Nova’ is a collaborative structure designed by sculptor Anish Kapoor and architect Arata Isozaki. It has been dubbed as the world’s first inflatable concert hall.
Constructed over a year ago, the mobile structure will open to members of the public on 14 October, and will host concerts, events, and workshops in tsunami-damaged areas in Japan with the aim of “delivering hope and encouragement in the form of music”.
Made from a “translucent purple membrane” similar to a parachute, this organic structure takes about two hours to fully inflate and is able to roughly seat 500 people.
