In London, A Reflective Skyscraper 'Melted' A Jaguar Sports Car

The 37-storey Walkie Talkie Skyscraper in London is quite a noticeable landmark as it has a reflective surface, but this building has been causing some damage to vehicles parked nearby.

During the day, the building functions like a gigantic magnifying class, melting the vehicles parked along a nearby street.

Dubbed the “Walkie Scorchie” by City A.M., this building has damaged a Jaguar XJ, owned by Martin Lindsay, the director of a tiling company.

Lindsay, who had parked his Jaguar at 12.45pm last Thursday, came back to find the smell of burnt plastic as the panels of his car destroyed.

Upset, the director has contacted the developers Land Securities and Canary Wharf, and will be compensated with UK£946.

In the meantime, parking bays in the area have been suspended as the developers are looking into the matter.

What do you think—should architects be a lot more careful when designing buildings with reflective surfaces?
