‘X-Men’ Couture: Superheroes Ditch Their Costumes For Vogue-Worthy Outfits

What would superheroes look like if they were to appear on the cover of Vogue? Illustrator Kevin Wada has a good idea, having transformed the ‘X-Men’ superheroes into fashion icons in his ‘X-Fashions’ series.

In 2011, he collaborated with fellow illustrator Max Wittert on the first illustrations of the ‘X-Men’ characters à la mode to sell at the Alternative Press Expo.

The illustrations retain nuances of the character’s original costumes or powers—‘Kitty Pryde’ is gorgeous in a tiger-print dress and lace blindfold, and ‘Cyclops’ looks dapper in a bold-colored suit and red eye-piece.

Wada has since been commissioned to produce more ‘X-Fashion’ pieces, including a Vanity Fair cover featuring the ladies of ‘X-Men’.

Other stunning illustrations feature the ‘X-women’ in Downton Abbey-inspired flapper chic and dressed as famous opera heroines.
