Califonia-based glass artist Loren Stump has created a series of amazing “Murrine” glasswork—where he melts pieces of glass together and paint intricate portraits onto it.
Over the past 35 years, the artist has “perfected his own technique” to the “4,000 years” murrina making process—he “now layers entire portraits and paintings in glass” before slicing them to reveal the entire artwork.
One of his most notable piece is a detailed “interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci's Virgin of the Rocks”, which is “made up of hundreds of glass components”.
