Topsy, the social-search engine, has announced that it has archived every Tweet ever made since Twitter’s launch in 2006.
According to their database, they have archived more than 475 billion—or half a trillion—tweets, as well as images, videos and other data that was uploaded to this popular social networking site.
The search engine is able to pinpoint the location of each tweet, enabling users to track trending hash tags during disasters.
By doing so, emergency personnel in these areas may be able to make use of this information to respond and help quickly.
Tracking tags also enables Wall Street investment firms to keep tabs on the stock market’s trends, and aid scientists with discovering cholera-ridden areas after the earthquake in Haiti.
