After a neighbor told Hiroichi Kimura that it would be nice to have a watermelon in the shape of a heart, the farmer started thinking of ways to make one.
Kimura started doing research on the ideal soil, atmospheric and temperature conditions to grow this uniquely-shaped fruit, even making his own heart-shaped mold.
Although he failed many times, the farmer never gave up and eventually succeeded.
Like his other normal watermelons, Kimura’s special heart-shaped one is crunchy and sweet as well.
Despite his success, the farmer is not complacent and wishes to continue his research to develop other varieties of watermelon that are just as delicious.
