The Japanese are famous for their “host clubs” and “maid cafes” where young people pay for these dashing men and beautiful women to chat them up—as long as they have enough money, that is.
However, to cater to the older generation, a business has been set-up for women to “rent” middle-aged men to help them out with house repairs, errands, and in general, keep them company.
Called “Ossan Rental”, which literally translates to “Middle-Aged Man Rental”, women can navigate through the company’s website, add the man of their choice to a shopping cart, and pay for “delivery”.
An hour of companionship costs US$10, and since the service is new, users can only choose between two men—Takanobu Nishimoto, a lecturer of fashion and styling, or Mikio Sendou, a sports commentator and former baseball player.
What do you think—is this a good way to keep loneliness at bay?
