The St. Joseph North Pier on Lake Michigan is a sight to behold during the winter months.
Due to the gale, the waves crash and freeze upon the pier and the two surrounding lighthouses, making beautiful glacial formations.
The ice envelops the railings and lighthouses, and as the wind blows, they twist into peculiar hanging shapes.
Environmental and landscape photographer, Tom Gill, has been taking photographs of these formations over the years and they are breathtaking.
He likens the ice poignantly to “fresh, white laundry blowing in the wind”.
