Japanese video game producer Keiki Inafune—who created the iconic Capcom character Mega Man—has launched a new game on crowd-founding platform Kickstarter.
Called ‘Mighty No. 9’, it is an “all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game” that contains elements from the classic 8- and 16-bit Mega Man video game titles.
Players take control of ‘Beck’, the “9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk”.
Similar to Mega Man, Beck has the ability to absorb their powers and use them to defeat other enemies and solve puzzles.
Inafune left Capcom in 2010, and chose Kickstarter to fund this project because he wanted to allow dedicated fans of the side-scroller genre to share their insight and assist in designing the game.
The ‘Mighty No. 9’ project has raised over $1.7 million on Kickstarter so far.
