A Beautiful, Art-Centric Villa With Headless Sculptures Embedded In Its Ceiling

Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld has designed a stunning villa in Sao Paulo—named “Casa Cubo”—for a couple of art collectors, who wanted a space to display their large and impressive private stash of contemporary art.

The bright, spacious building consists of beautiful architectural elements that reflect the owners’ artistic inclinations, which is balanced between the Latin American, European and American styles.

Stand-out features include a magnificent spiral staircase made of rich brown Brazilian ironwood, a light-filled office that is lined with books on the mezzanine level and intriguing headless sculptures that hang from the ceiling of the living area.

According to Weinfeld, this is “a place to receive people, not to sit and watch TV”—this may explain the art-centric, gallery-like layout of the space.
