Watching movies at a drive-in theater has a nostalgic feel to it—scenes of vintage cars lined up often come to mind.
Instead of mint cars, Brooklyn-based artists Jeff Stark and Todd Chandler used old and wrecked cars rescued from the junkyard for their project, ‘Empire Drive-In’.
Through this project, the artists hope to provoke discussion on “car culture, planned obsolescence, and the distinction between public and private space”.
Visitors can sit in, on, or around the salvaged cars while watching films projected on a large screen. Like other drive-in theaters, the audio is transmitted via each car’s radio system.
Albeit being a little shabby, the temporary theater is a cosy and creative space for audiences to enjoy an intimate night in.
