A model for an urban development project in Xi’an, China took the form of an impressive glass menagerie containing thousands of goldfish.
Dubbed ‘Fishpond City’, the installation features 56 vertical glass aquariums and 29 multicolored LED lights.
According to the designers, the aquariums represent future buildings, and the goldfish represent human beings.
The ‘city’ is glorious to look at, with schools of flickering goldfish lighting up the transparent containers. In the dark, the LED lights glow, and the room pulsates with color.
A collaboration between Chinese landscape designer Lu Yang, and Viennese art-based company Lindle_Bukor, the project reflects the reconstruction of both the architecture and landscape in China.
China is being reconstructed on a broad scale, and the set-up acts as “a testing ground for cultural perception of space and housing space in particular”.
