Smartphones with flexible screens have been in the works for some time now—Samsung has beaten its competitors in this particular tech race by unveiling the world’s first smartphone with a curved display yesterday.
The Galaxy Round resembles the Galaxy S3 and S4, but features an intriguing dip in the middle that makes it seem like the phone is curving around a vertical axis.
According to Samsung, this stationary curve is designed to fit the contours of a person’s face—it is also supposed to let users control their apps, music and photographs more easily.
For instance, users can make use of functions like the “Roll Effect” to check for information like the time, unread messages and battery life while the home screen is off. A “Side Mirror” feature also allows them to access videos and pictures by tilting the device to the right or left.
Set to be launched first in South Korea in a range of colors, it is still unclear when the Galaxy Round would be available on the international market—would you be interested in acquiring a smartphone with a curved screen?
