Inattention is one of the biggest killers on the roads.
To tackle this issue, the Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia has decided to create a car that is powered by concentration.
The ‘RAC Attention Powered Car’ comes with a headgear that is worn by the driver to measure his/her concentration while driving.
The headset measures brain activity, blink rate, gaze rate and eye movement—to know when drivers are distracted, zoning out, or switching tasks.
Inattentiveness can be caused by both external and internal factors—external factors include: talking on the phone, or turning behind to talk to someone; internal factors can be caused by emotion or exhaustion.
When the driver stops paying attention, the vehicle would stop giving power to the accelerator which would cause the vehicle to slow down. Once the driver regains attention, the power would return to the accelerator.
To simply put it, the less attentive drivers are, the slower the car will move.
The attention-powered vehicle aims to encourage people to think about the way they drive, to prevent accidents from happening on the road.
