Artists Capture X-Ray Portraits Of Couples In Intimate Embrace

Wanting to show the “essence of human connection”, Japanese artists Ayako Kanda and Mayuka Hayashi captured four couples in tender embrace using a CT scan and X-ray machine.

Looking like images you would normally see in the doctor’s office, the artists said, “X-ray images usually show the finite nature of our bodies composed only of matter.”

“But these couple portraits reveal a pulse that isn’t normally seen.”

This photo series earned the artists a prize in the recent Mitsubishi Chemical Junior Designer Award.
