Chevrolet Brazil Creates Fantastic $10,000 Ad To Move Black Friday Car Sales

In a bid to drum up car sales on Black Friday, Chevrolet Brazil and Creative Director Antonio Correa came up with an ingenious idea to print ads using the same complex anti-counterfeit techniques used to print banknotes and checks.

Dubbed the “world’s most valuable campaign”, the ads were designed by Chief Technical Illustrator Rogério Pozzi Taffo and feature watermarks, banknote-like textures, and interlocking steering wheel and hubcap designs. True to their anti-forgery nature, they cannot be photocopied or scanned properly, and a moiré effect appears in the event of an attempt.

Coincidentally, General Motors cuts prices of its Chevy Volt by the same amount last year, leading the Christian Science Monitor to declare General Motors was “paying” people to buy its cars.

The ads could actually be used for $10,000 off on 29 November, and while it remains to be seen if this tactic led to increased sales for Chevrolet Brazil, it certainly gave literal meaning to its campaign slogan “The value of an ad is measured by the value of the paper it’s printed on. Or maybe not.”
