If you play football, you’ll know that how inflated or under-inflated a ball is affects how it moves when kicked.

Enter ‘BallTune’, a nifty app for iOS and Android that tells you if a match ball needs air by listening to it bounce.

To use, download the app, drop a match ball onto a hard surface and point your device at it. The app records a video and analyzes the sound and frequency of bounces to determine the ball’s PSI, letting you adjust its pressure to your liking.

The app normally costs US$2, but in view of the World Cup, it’s currently being offered for free for a limited time.

It’s a convenient, hassle-free invention that does away with physical pressure gauges, and its creators are planning similar versions for basketballs and volleyballs.

Watch an introductory video below, and download the ‘BallTune’ app from the iTunes and Google Play store.
