Created by Sam Johnson and Steven Bai, alumni of the Design Lab at University of Sydney, the “TetraBIN” lets people play tetris while throwing their trash.
Instead of guilt tripping people with littering fines or signs, the idea for TetraBIN was to positively motivate people to put their trash in the right place.
Using three internal infrared beams to monitor input, the bin senses when an individual throws a piece of trash and will automatically send a command to the bin's exterior. This will cause the LED light display on the bin's exterior to drop a geometric block onto the tetris grid. The bin also has speakers inside that play 8-bit sounds.
Through this game, TetraBIN helps encourage environmentally-friendly behavior, and hopefully better people's lives.
