How far would you go to learn a new language?

Writer and entrepreneur Scott Young and architectural intern Vat Jaiswal decided to travel the world for a year without speaking English.

The experiment resulted in them picking up Spanish from Spain, Portuguese from Brazil, Mandarin from China and Korean from South Korea. These countries were selected for their geographical diversity and personal interests.

The creative duo spent three months in each country, trying to learn as much as they could of the local language and culture there, while adhering to the condition of not conversing in English.

Find out how well they fared in the yearlong project by watching the following video.

You can also check out the detailed accounts and videos of their experiences in Young’s blog and Jaiswal’s website.
