Amazingly Realistic Miniature Replicas Of Real Houses From The 1930s

Even after staring at these beautiful interiors photographs for some time, we still find it a little hard to believe that they are not pictures of real, life-sized houses, but of their miniature replicas.

Constructed by the very talented Narcissa Ward Thorne,—better known as Mrs James Ward Thorn—the most amazing thing about these astoundingly realistic architectural reproductions is that they were made back in the 1930s, without the fancy, high-tech tools available today.

Built on a scale of one inch to one foot, these exact replicas of real houses depict the signature styles of the periods they were built in—from a contemporary dining room in New Mexico to an English library of the Regency period, they are fascinating to behold.

Mrs James Ward became famous when these miniature houses were exhibited at the New York World’s Fair in 1940—they are currently on display in her hometown of Chicago.
